About Open@WRLC
Open@WRLC is the Washington Research Library Consortium's central hub for Open Educational Resources (OER), committed to expanding access to free and low-cost course materials that advance equity and support student success. Openly licensed resources give faculty the freedom to adapt, customize, and improve course content while ensuring students have immediate, barrier-free access from the very first day of class. In addition to showcasing practical tools and university contact points, Open@WRLC provides an extensive archive of OER instructional demonstrations, provided by the WRLC's Textbook Affordability Working Group (TAWG), showing how adopting open materials can spark innovation and strengthen teaching.
Launched in January 2022, the Open@WRLC Faculty Course Transformation (FCT) Program was a two-year pilot program developed to offer grants and dedicated support for faculty shifting to no-cost or low-cost materials. By pairing curriculum redesign stipends with hands-on guidance, the program cultivated a growing community of OER advocates across the consortium. In its first year alone, participating projects saved students nearly $300,000 in textbook costs. While the program itself was not fully operationalized, the Faculty Course Transformation Cohorts page remains a vibrant directory of faculty projects, impact statements, and emerging ideas- continuing to foster inspiration and cross-institution collaboration.
